This post is long overdue, but we had a really neat field trip a few weeks ago that I wanted to share with you guys! Neot Kedumim is a Biblical Nature Reserve here in Israel. Sounds kinda...boring? It was actually REALLY neat! Basically what they've done is created a place that is imitative of what things would have actually been like during the Bible times. Same trees, same animals, same flowers, etc. So naturally we had to participate in the same activities that would have occurred during Biblical times as well...we herded sheep, we worked an olive press, we drew water from wells, we crushed herbs for the pita bread which we made ourselves (well...others in the group made...)...the list goes on! But it was a really fun day! Here are some pictures to prove it.
Me helping to "herd" the sheep :)
Andrew was pro...he'd make a great shepherd :)
My cowboy with his sheep and goats :)
Everyone forced us to take a picture by this sign. :) 54 days!!
The guy on the right is an official scribe. This is a legit Torah scroll
they showed us...pretty incredible! They are SO much work,
because they have to be written perfectly.
Will is a beast. :) This is him working the olive press.
The next step. The olives go in the "tires", and when you crank the wheel,
it squeezes the juice out. Pretty neat to watch the whole process!
I'm not very strong...it was difficult!
Me giving Dal water from the well, just like in the bible stories :)
Hannah and Alyssa, making the pita bread.
Cooking our pitas!
